Dell and Compaq all have nice cheap laptops, and by "nice and cheap" I mean decently equipped for between $650-900. But there's a great deal over at Best Buy right now for an eMachines M5405. It's got gobs of memory and hard drive, a DVD/CD-RW, wireless networking, and a WIDESCREEN. It normally retails for $999 but w/ the $150 mail-in rebate, it'll be $850. Nicely better than anything for same price from Dell or Compaq. And Widescreen means happier DVD watching. ^___^
If you're gonna try to convince'em w/ the rebate, though, you should hurry. The rebate ends on Nov. 13th. Maybe you could get an advance on your Xmas present! XD
(If you go REALLY cheapo, Wal-Mart has a $598 laptop that's made of graham crackers and liquid cooled with Cheez Whiz...)
