A week or two ago, I sort of decided I wanted to be reading more real books in English, and I asked my mother the English teacher to help me find some good things. So while I was in Cape Cod, we visited a book store. She helped me find some good things, which is to say, I sat in a chair and read stuff while she picked out things that she'd heard were good. Now that I think about it, that's probably weird, but a lot of things I do are weird anyway, and it worked fine. I don't like browsing the bookshelves myself, not without something to guide me. I find and buy too many books that I don't want desperately when I could be spending my money on things from amazon.co.jp.
Right now I'm reading a book called "You Shall Know Our Velocity!" It's about two guys who decide they're going to travel around the world for a week giving away money. The important part is that they are normal and dumb instead of virtuous and smart, and they're funny. It's by Dave Eggers, who is famous, so other people have read this book and liked it. Have you read it? Did you like it? I also got She's Come Undone, The Secret Life of Bees, and Memoirs of a Geisha. Girl books. But I don't know if I can read Memoirs of a Geisha because I had this dream I got kidnapped and they were going to make me into a geisha, and it might just be too much like my dream.
For manga, I've been reading something called Yotsuba&! (Yotsuba And!), but Kiyohiko Azuma, the translated version (and it's a good thing, too, because now I can make my dad read it). It's about a little girl, Yotsuba, her dad, and her neighbors. Yotsuba is VERY cute, but not in an unnatural way that makes grownups happy. She does silly stuff like a normal little kid, and then, because her life is great and she's young, the world forgives her for it. But instead of making me angry that she gets away with everything, it just makes me all happy because the stuff she does is so darn cute and funny. It's a feel-good, joyful story (I'm saving rereading it for the next time I have PMS and I'm depressed). I like it, and my dad seems to, and I think my mom will, too. So if you're looking for a funny, adorable story, read this! And tell me you liked it!
