So! You'd think that I would have been all over a translation for the Vesperia opening, but the first thing I heard about it was that there was already an English version. I had better things to do, like examining Flynn and constantly reloading wiki pages. At some point last night I got around to listening to both the English and Japanese versions of the opening fairly close to each other, and what should I discover, but---the songs actually are different from each other. And I feel certain that this is not (not entirely) a bunch of translation errors or words added to make the song sound better. These songs make more sense when you've heard and understand both---they are actually meant to be together. So here is a "combined version," with my boring translated lyrics and the official English lyrics.

Let's play find the dichotomies! )

I think I saw some foolish interviewer or developer saying that these songs are better. SEE? SEE? I MUST BE RIGHT!!! Continuing on that subject, this sheds some light on why this game was planned for release in the US so gosh darn fast. They're using the an in-game theme of two entities coming together to make a whole to integrate, at least for one game, US and Japanese audiences.

I don't think I really have to intimate to anyone my thoughts re: this song, Flynn and Yuri---nor do I think I could. I can only summarize by saying that this song makes me a happy, happy fangirl.
