I have played through Will's character quest. I alternated between revulsion and delight throughout the whole thing.

Ah, it wasn't that bad. I really appreciated Will saying that it's the parent's job to let their kid kick their ass. I agree with this. No little-kid I-hate-you will make her stop being his daughter---I (finally) got warm fuzzies from that. This character quest seriously reminds me of that "just one more" story I read about. It's got the flowers all around, the adorable girl-child, and the MY ONLY WISH foolishness. Except Will didn't have to die. (I may type it up someday if someone asks me. Maybe it's on the web somewhere, not that I can find it...)

My main problems with this scenario come from the idea of "mother" that is largely not dealt with because Will is a daddy. Like, one line of the vaguest motherhating is all it takes to tip me off, so let's discuss: do I like it when Will says babies react to whatever the person is holding them feel? No. Not very much. Right, it's the mom's fault the baby is crying because she's not serene enough. So blame it on the mother? On the daughter? Harriet's complaints about Will only taking responsibility when it suits him are never ever EVER supposed to fit. And this specter of Amelia's dead mother...I suppose they make it perfectly clear that everybody was happier when Amelia was alive, but, but...are we sure? What I'm trying to say is, I'm so sick of dead mommies in these things. It's like they're only good mommies when they're martyred by illness or childbirth. It's frightening.

I was a bit confused to hear all that talk about family and blood = happiness with Shirley and Senel standing right there. It's just...it mixes everything up.

I really cried during the part with Harriet's room. Like, that whole thing I was just BAWWW OMIGOD STUFFED ANIMALS PINK. And there was more crying with the flowers. I mean, I could tell they named the flowers "Harriet," but just...pink awwww sparklies.

Do I even have to discuss the business with the door and Will and cute? Ahh, symbolism.

Custard cream would be good in, say, muffins...
