縁翠(みどり)のロクサーヌ

Lius, the violet-eyed king of Arcacia, and Roxanne, the queen of Mary Sues an assassin posing as a dancing girl, fall in love amidst suspicion and many difficult circumstances. It's an epic, or maybe just ridiculous and cliched love story, but I read it all. I read it all to the last sentence, which I shouldn't have done, because the last sentence was this:

「ライアス大王が早世する, 十年前のことだった。」

Hey, I don't know what 早世 is, do you? I didn't know what ご落胤 means, but I figured that out on the first hit. Anyway, better go look it up.

WWWJDIC: 早世 【そうせい】 (n,vs) dying young; early death

"It all happened before the Great King Lius died an early death ten years later."

No emoticon could express the widening of my eyes (O_O), my wail of rage (‘口’). Everything was going perfectly! And then, as if the author couldn't STAND for me to be happy, she had to kill off a character I had grown to love and cheer for, and make my avatar the girl sad! Oh, for chrissake! Now, NOW I see why I shouldn't have gone reading bad fantasy novels in Japanese! FINE! I'll just switch to...this...book by Megumi Waki...with art by Kawaku...mutter mutter...

Perhaps you've caught whatever affliction I seem to have when it comes to books--my favorite character ALWAYS dies. ~_~

Well, as long as I'm reading books that kill off characters to create unnecessary drama, I think it's going to be a fact of life... =_=
