I watched X-Files when it was first airing, but I was 1. too young to get most of it and 2. too busy looking for canon Mulder/Scully to properly understand (never bothered with fanfic, though). Even now, when I catch a rerun, I still often refuse to watch anything but the silly/cute episodes, so the Mulder I imagine is like Roy, only less of a showoff/asshole/obvious pervert: superdorky, fights the government in an attempt to save the world, has a down-to-earth woman keeping him in line. And a cool trenchcoat.
