Pictures of baby harp seal by Sakai Mayu.

I...don't really have much else to say about today. But I've only been awake for 9 hours! Who knows what other fun things I'll find before I pass out?!!

The plushie I have, Chou, is...loved. I mean, she's a little grungy and her fur isn't very neat anymore. But she's the best and only baby harp seal plushie I have ever had, and frankly my favorite stuffed animal ever. And she's a Wild Republic stuffed animal that, for all appearances, isn't being made anymore and cannot be replaced. I'm trying to keep her out of harm's way, but I always want to hug her, or play with her, or have her roll around inside Mom's laptop and say, "TANNING SALON!!!" or make her do little seal dances to the opening music of Law and Order. (...)

So I'm looking for a new body for Chou. To house her...soul ._. And then I can keep Chou safe someplace where she won't get torn up or covered in dirt, while still playing with her. (It just...isn't this kind of dark, though? Would a child think this way? Am I a mad scientist?)

For some reason, looking for a baby harp seal plushie nearly killed me. I felt like I was having a heart attack, or like I was experiencing heart break, at the same time I was going OMG SO CUTE ILU. I just wanted to explode---like, I would have felt much more comfortable stuck to the wall in a million pieces.

Eventually I bought a "Yomiko Classics" baby harp seal that is 18.5" long, just about the same size as Chou. The order hasn't been sent out yet, but I'm not hanging by a thread waiting for it like just about everything else I order online. =_=

Does anybody know Tenshi ni Bara no Hanataba wo, by Higuri Yuu? I uh, I apparently bought the first volume of this YEARS ago, possibly around 2000? 2001? Read it once, and ignored it until now. My God. Campy? corny? stereotyped? shameless? Anyway, what is interesting is not the content, but my reaction to it. It features an uke who turns into a pretty girl when he smells roses. He changes back into a guy when the resident seme kisses him. So basically, when the seme kisses the uke, the uke is a girl.

Back when I first read this MINIMUM 5 years ago, I was like "But he's kissing a GIRL :(((." When I reread it a week ago, I was like, "But he's kissing a girl ♥♥♥."

...am I a grown-up now? D:

I used to have a plush horse doll that came with a pair of pyjamas - I remember my parents wanted me to get a different pair of pyjamas, but I threw a fit - and I loved it. Unfortunately a few years ago Second-youngest Sister mischievously shaved him and now he's ruined. :( So I can sympathize! My family also cut up my favorite sweater to make a Gryffindor scarf. I don't care if it didn't fit anymore! Bah.

Can't the new doll be Chou's little brother instead? The name could be Shou-chou (shou like 小) *shot*

I must say that's a useful coincidence. For people who are just getting into BL but are still unnerved by the 'boys' part?

Oh, for the past few years I've named my stuffed animals after desserts, so Chou is my mangled interpretation of the Japanese for "cream puff." My family pronounces it like "shoe." ._. I'll probably name the next one "Mochi," or something that brings daifuku to mind.

As for little brothers...I dunno. I've considered it. Almost all of my other stuffed animals are boys---in fact, I went in and looked at them, and besides ones that are characters from something, there are no girls. So I might want to try and balance it out a little, or I might want to keep Chou special by having her be the only girl...it's complicated. I just feel like I'd be betraying Chou for a new baby if I the new one was anything but Chou.

(YES I KNOW I'M CRAZY.)

My family is outstanding in terms of keeping all my old beloved crap. The only thing we had to put away for good was my bear blanky, because it fell apart in the wash. ;_; It was a gift from my aunt, who loves to sew, so maybe I could get her to put new stuffing and backing on it...

I...guess. I don't know, it's still pretty classic yaoi manga. Which is to say, it's melodramatic and foolish and shows the uke main character blushing for guys while he's a guy. So if the reader was worried about that, then it wouldn't work. I think it's really even more fanservicey than showing two guys kissing, because I personally think it would be groovy if a super seme kissed the opposite sex with decent regularity. And I don't think I'm alone.

My high school science teacher used to name her pets after food, so she had a rabbit named Haussenfeffer.

You'd know best XD

We keep so much old stuff in my house, so I can't really be too grumpy over the sweater. And my youngest sister needed it for a Purim costume, and I guess the colors were just right. Still...

Oh well. At any rate it's a decent excuse for a kiss - Merupuri pulls almost the same trick.

Would it be horrible to call your pet chicken Karaage, your pet cow Beefsteak, and your pet fish Sashimi!?

...mm, Karaage *_*

When I played RO, I called my Savage Babe Menchi?

Me...ru...puri? What is this?

Meruhen Prince by Hino Matsuri? Very ridiculous (though extremely pretty) shoujo where the heroine has to kiss a shota to undo the curse that turns him into a hot young man in the dark. Of course, he has a childish affection for her that's cute when he's little and terrifying when he's big. I sweatdropped reading it.

It's very popular and well-drawn, so you might enjoy reading it :)

...that reminds me of a very recent series in Ribon that involves a very bad-boy demon announcing he's going to make a 10-year-old loli into his toy (arrow pointing to his head at the time: "super sadist") and then kissing her, and then she turns into a beautiful teenager...I forgave it because I thought the manga artist knew exactly how bad it was, but you reminded me of it.

I will research this Merupuri you speak of.

Nice naming sense! ><b

Ah, MeruPuri. I rather liked it myself, ridiculous premise aside. The magical shouta prince boy was cute.

I read about it on Wiki, and it I can actually buy it I'll probably enjoy it, but it sort of inspired a rant about how so many shoujo manga show the girl falling for a guy who is not their ideal.
