In regards to video games, I really liked the relationships the girls in Persona 3 had with one another. Sure, Yukari was a bit of a bitch to Mitsuru in the beginning (for reasons you could sort of sympathize with, but not condone that thankfully, had nothing to do with her love for a member of the opposite gender Mitsuru also had her eyes on), but the relationship between all of the girls by the end of the game is so much better for all of it. It was totally cool and totally real.
But like you said, it's always one extreme or the other in most video games, and most of the time, it's over a man. Honestly, as a shoujo-ai fangirl, I don't mind the fluffy shoujo bubbles spewing all over the place, but occasionally, I'd like to see girls being girls.
