Actually, I find that each side has a distinct night and day, just not as distinct. Asmodea is pretty dark and Elysea is pretty bright.

I happen to know that there's an endgame part where the starting village is invaded by monsters, and you go back and defend it. So the starting village (which was already kind of under siege but pretty) gets wrecked too.
