Chapter 28 of Full Moon

In case that someone's reading these and that they're not available somewhere else as translations, a summary of chapter 28 of Full Moon wo Sagashite. ...I translated a lot more pickly little WORDS in this than I should have, but they sound so nice in Japanese. Here's hoping you can decipher it, and it still means the same thing, in English.

Izumi is floating around, watching, doing nothing to help Mitsuki. Sheldon explains that it hurts Izumi to see her so pure and perfect when he's such a mess, but Mitsuki thinks he doesn't really want her to die. She's remembering when Izumi, sitting on a bench, caught her as she began to walk away, as a way of asking her to stay.

She asks why the shinigami are called shinigami. Sheldon starts with the history of the meikai. Their ruler, Death Master, was the first one to be there, and he says she decided they would be called shinigami, but apparently it's a little different. She remembers she found a girl dying in some ruins. She asked the Death Master, "Are you the grim reaper?" so the Death Master decided then that she was a shinigami. The next person who was "born" into the meikai was Sheldon, and she told him he would be a shinigami, too.

Mitsuki thinks it's all wrong, though. She says someone with white wings who comes to guide souls separated from their bodies is an angel. 'Your feelings were never answered...your eyes are kind because you were hurt. But if you'll carry your tears and move forward...' "Then I'm an angel!" I take this to mean that she wants to guide Izumi. ^^ Izumi is shocked, and he drops the vial that he's holding onto. Mitsuki grabs it, lifting it up as if she plans to throw it down and break it. "You're not in pain because you can't breathe, Izumi. It's because it disgusts you to see yourself not living up to your ideals." 'I'm not pretty...but I feel that I want to be pretty, no matter what hard times come.' "You have to risk all the feeling it takes to match what you truly want to get it...or you'll never have it." She gives the vial back to Izumi. 'Courage...belief...isn't trying to become the person you want to be...' "Isn't it a beautiful thing...?" The vial breaks, and Izumi begins to see his last forgotten memory of his previous life.

He does, after all, find himself at the train tracks with the train coming and his mother watching. Mitsuki was right; he couldn't open the vial because he was terrified he would see something in this last memory that would take away the last of his hope, and then he would never want to live up to his ideals again. He decides that he's going to risk his last hope and watch this, because he can get the pure love that he wants so badly. He looks up at his mother and sees that she's crying. He hears her thinking, 'I have to keep myself from screaming and calling him back---I have to let him go myself---' She keeps crying, "I'm sorry...I'm sorry, Rio..." 'I'm sorry I wasn't able to love you...'

Izumi "awakens" hugging Mitsuki. The entire next page is sort of a jumble, but it's not hard to figure out what order the words are in, and Meroko is in the center of it all. He will always wander, and the shadows will always be at his back, but if he has the moon to light his way, he can look up for guidance and still find kindness inside himself, and he doesn't have to hurt people he cares about. He tells Mitsuki that he treasures her and wants to protect her---

and then Takuto and Meroko show up. They pose, they announce themselves as the "ULTRAstrongest SUPER Shinigami combi negi ramen RARR!!!" well. ...something along those lines. They frankly look like they're been dragged through ten miles of hell...they probably HAVE, as a matter of fact...beat up, bleeding all over, out of breath, and certainly ready to kick Sheldon's ass. As they rush forward, Mitsuki remembers some of the really kind things the three of them have said to her. 'Eichi-kun...I love you. Some stubborn part of my heart still wishes I could go back to the way I was before...but I want to make a bet...take a risk just one last time. If, before my life ends, I should try as hard as I can---to sing, and to shine---and someone can find me when I love myself...and they can tell me they love that, too...' 'I had decided that I would live for that somebody.'

'And even if I lost them again...I could nod and say it's all right, that I believe that the light can shine again and again...' 'A sunlit garden...mirages in the rain...the white coast...white tetrapods [note: these]...a pie of songbirds or a shortcut..." "To search for the whereabouts of the full moon...I will go..."

"Eichi-kun, I love you...I love you...I love you...I LOVE you..."

"But...!"

Sheldon is finding that Meroko, Izumi, and Takuto are giving him a hard time, and he calls on the Death Master for her assistance. She sends her own scythe flying out of the sky at Mitsuki. Takuto sees it coming, and grabs her, trying to shield her from it. It flies into his back, through his backpack, through him, and into Mitsuki as he holds her. They both fall to the ground, still holding each other and run through with the scythe.
