My Tanemura Arina binge is (sort of) going to start one month early, thanks to the wonders of preview crap. This month's issue of Ribon, fresh out of my mailbox, has a little color page in the front with stuff about Tanemura Arina's next series. It's name is Shinshi Doumei (The Gentleman Alliance), and, true to Arina's word, it's a gakuen mono. To explain that again, that means Saved By the Bell with school uniforms antics at a big shiny school that kids like going to, with uniforms that kids like wearing. In other words, *total* fantasy.
The main character a is a first-year (10th-grade) girl named Otomiya Haine who is bats about The Emperor, a.k.a. Touguu Shizumasa. Shizumasa is a cool, tough first year who is also somehow president of the student council. He has a ton of power, whatever that is at this school, and people call him "The Emperor." Haine's current goal is to be prettier and more feminine, presumably to be a suitable partner for that Emperor; failing that, she at least wants him to notice her.
Whatever Arina's doing, she's getting closer to writing a "normal love story," something she's been aiming for for a long time, though how long it'll last and how good it'll be is anybody's guess. Clearly I am excited. My new AIM screen name is Otomiya Haine (HAHAHAHA I GOT IT BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE ^^^^^^)
