Wow. I've read other accounts of this type of harassment post-9/11, one being from another LJer, ursulav. This one definitely takes the cake in terms of hostility. What utter bastards. And my mom doesn't understand why I figure I'll probably end up as an ex-pat in a couple decades.

Yeah, that story irked me. I probably would have gotten myself in trouble had I been there, because if *I'd* been there with a camera, and I'd seen him being harassed like that, I would have gone up to the police and demanded that they detain me too, as, after all, I was guilty of the same crime--taking a couple of fucking pictures. And I'd be *damned* if they were going to let my lily-white skin be enough of a good excuse.
