Robin's pastel baby-colored desktop. With Mamegoma lounging around. My Recycle Bin is a tiny cat pretending to be flan. I think I must be trying to kill myself with cute.

I'm a little mopey about skipping Otakon again (but I mean, seriously, people can still be huge fans of FMA without seeing a L'Arc en Ciel concert and Vic making Ed say that stuff about miniskirts), and...stupid Japanese. What's the point of being proud if all those other people can speak it? :< And probably English, too. Sob sob. COMFORT ME BITCHES.

I really feel like I've just latched onto the JLPT as a little...hamster-wheel. For myself. I'm too afraid of responsibility and not being perfect to go to school or get a job, so I take the JLPT and say I'm making progress. I mean, people keep saying this is progress, but how much? Isn't taking the JLPT 1 redundant by now? So I went to NYC and took a test, I did that last year. I need a new goal. I want a new goal? I'm scared this one isn't enough.

[What was originally here was my reaction to what I think is the standard pep talk for this sort of complaint. It's a favorite rant of mine. It got long. To summarize, fast way = risky like taking all the trazidone and jumping off the roof. And cruel, and irresponsible, and totally fake.]

I drew more (unfinished) pictures. ...okay, PORN, FINE. It's Roy, Ed, and Ed again and I'm surprised at how far I got with each one. I mean, usually I can only draw one picture fit for human consumption before I get to the legs or some unpleasant piece of perspective I don't have any practice on.

ELLIOT
[whines to herself] Why can't I just grow up? Why can't I be stronger? Janitor? Have you ever looked at yourself and wished that you were different in every single way?

JANITOR
No.... I'm a winner. But, I will tell you something that my grandmother told me when I was a kid -- even though at the time I thought she was my mother. She said, "Time spent wishing is time wasted." Now, she died shortly after that, and my sister -- who actually WAS my mother -- she never got over it. Neither did my brother/Dad. But the point is this: If you want to be different, then be different!

Incidentally, Martha Stewart's catch phrase for her own version of Apprentice is "You just don't fit in." How AWFUL is that?

Oh, brother. "Be different." Okay, so you're trying to light my way with a quote from the holy show Scrubs, thanks.

Incidentally, yes, that is awful.

Well, that really isn't the best applicable advice, but it IS the funniest advice ever b/c the Janitor simply rocks. Real comfort is end-of-episode voiceovers from J.D. but those can be depressing.

Ask Minori about finding a job or internship using Japanese. Seriously. If you did that, then Minori and your relevant supervisor might be enough to write you college recommendations, so you could avoid trying to dredge up a memory of one good teacher from high school to write these things.

Or, see if you can enroll in an art class at whatever college is closest to home. Figure drawing, if you can get it, or painting or something. That would be applicable to art you ~actually care about, plus it's another way to get a teacher who can write you a recommendation, plus it wouldn't be a real class that really mattered.

But the JLPT isn't half bad, man. It's a real credential.

Classes close to home is an idea that's been going around for while. Thank you for reminding me of this. :D And haha, Minori, oh my god. I have three old people and me trying to figure this out and we can't think of Minori. I'm not sure she does all that much with translation, but she knows TONS of people. She would be the person to ask.

where did u downloadthat theme?
Or did you do it yourself?

[identity profile] moumusu.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a mix of stuff from San-X's official website. Here's the downloads section (http://www.san-x.co.jp/charapri/top.html). Everything is free. I mean, I think it's really nice stuff, and it's fast and there's a lot of it, and it's free yes. I'm surprised at this.

I can't help but love the food cat icons. I'm not supposed to love cats this much, but...it's just overwhelming. They're everywhere.

I totally forgot about Otakon until it was past! x_X But yeah, it does feel weird to miss it.

I just feel bad because I'm like OH NO I MISSED IT AND I WILL NEVER GET THAT CHANCE AGAIN. I need to look to the future, and whatever fandom I'll be into years from now. =_=
