Question: What do you do when you get to the end of your mystery book and you can't understand what the fuck they mean when they explain the trick room that was used to steal the painting?

Answer: Decide it's not your fault their explanation is opaque, because it's in writing, and possibly because it's in Japanese, and make up your own.

I occasionally make up the explanations in Conan, when the real ones are silly. Or wonder why the criminal went through so many machiavellian schemes when really, it would have been easier to just push the victim off a cliff and be done with it.

Thankfully, when I got to the end of this story, the bad guys were doing it for a decent reason. But yeah, I was forced to skip over the explanation for how the trick room worked because IT WAS STUPID. *is still frustrated* I had problems with the criminal being an insufferable show-off, too, but maybe that's a kaitou thing.
