Well, if you like artistic/experimental animes I would watch a few episodes of Noein because the animation at some points is blindingly awesome.
This series (baby dragons) runs in Zero-Sum, actually, so when I looked the author up it turned out she had gotten started doing slashy Suikoden doujin and even still does some now and again. That was kind of a weird discovery.
Oh and I feel like I should recommend Saiunkoku Monogatari... have you watched that?
Suzaku is from Code Geass (which I also stopped watching and have no inclination of resuming.) You're right that he was my favorite character though. I'm tlking about Rossiu (Gurren Lagann, aka the mecha show where everyone yells "Who the hell do you think I am?!" and wears sunglasses.)

Destiny 1 where Leon dies like an idiot and then is zombified like an idiot. Talk about salt in my wounds. Mind you right now I'm kinda not so fond of Leon on account of his very many fangirls and the ridiculous amount of fanservice they're getting, but at the time I wasn't happy.
