News on the school front:
-Remember when I was talking about my classes? Well, basically, whatever I said I was taking before, I switched out of. I'm still taking two classes, but they're different. It was a pain.
-For the first time since I started taking classes last year, I found myself unable to go into a class. The problem is situational and easily solved, so it's not a threat, but I kind of feel like I...fell down. It was crummy.
-I have, like...more homework than I thought...yeah... >_> It's nothing I can't handle, but it gave me bad dreams last night. I'm feeling more pressure.
News on the outrage front:
-Um, yeah. You can't call a woman a dried fish and expect me to read your comic book. Really, I've had it up to here with stories about a gorgeous woman struggling and panicking and suffering and working so hard for a jackass who dispenses love and encouragement only rarely, if at all. For feeding this nonsense to girls, how about you go fuck yourself? With a dried fish, of course.
-Why do we put the burden on the artists and their fans? Why doesn't someone fire back at the people who can't permit gayness to exist anywhere, ever? (P.S., everybody's heard about that guy who says his country doesn't have any homosexuals, right? har har)
-Duel Love: OH MY GOD. YOU MEAN GIRLS EXIST? THEY PLAY GAMES? THEY LIKE TO BE TITILLATED? AND THEY HAVE MONEY? ò_ó It's not the content, it's that many men are astonished at this discovery. Am now very pessimistic, blah blah, here's something that's totally going to be marginalized.
Nothing more of importance to discuss at the moment, though for those of you who know Nanoha: would this anime series make a better MMORPG, or Wii game? Is there any way to combine the two? Will it ever happen? I would totally pay money---I might even break the law---to play a game like that. (Alternatively, where is the LJ RPG where people are not stupid?)

Do you know why there are so many female characters who like fruit (Colette comes to mind) in Tales games? Because it's supposed to be an suggestively girly and virginal food. It's pretty and colorful, it smells good, it's delicate, it's a little sweet and tart, it's juicy, it's expensive as hell... ._. Of course real people don't think about this, but you hear a lot about it in the anime world. By contrast, dried fish in Japan are kind of homey and unglamourous, smelly, cost-effective, utterly lifeless and cold, and basically just the kind of thing a 50-year-old housewife back in the country would make (homemade pickles have even bigger problems with this). Take from this what you will. I myself sort of think it's like when Americans call a woman a cold fish, or a lollipop/toothbrush (don't want someone else to use it for the first time).
They do link manliness/virility/toughness with a preference for meat or savory foods (see also: Lloyd and Reid's preferences), so it's not like men don't escape it completely, but I don't see many people drawing them opening their mouths wide for strawberries covered in dewdrops (unless it is fanservice or just fanwork. Mm, Lloyd eating strawberries). Or making a whole series where they go on about how male otaku are like string beans [or whatever small and phallic vegetable you like].
I, like...I feel as if not everybody---especially younger, less confident, and more vulnerable women in a man's world---can tell when a manga series is preaching bullshit. I'm afraid that girls are going to take this stuff to heart and start calling each other dried fish, and then the females will be enforcing a double standard. ._. I wonder if anyone could be that silly...but how the heck should I know?

But yes, I do see what you mean. However, I do generally prefer savoury foods, and don't usually eat sweet things. It's just... fruits are an exception.

This is really interesting. Maybe I should make this the focus of my study.

*thinks about one of her own characters who likes strawberries a lot and is also a girl*
You could make a website about it with things you've noticed? I don't think there's much in the way of feminist criticism in fandom (since a lot of the older fangirls ignore the female characters entirely to squee over the guys).
