Oh my god. Adi. Adi. Your card. I love it. It's not just that you took the time to draw a gorgeous and cute picture, it's that you wrote Roy and Ed bickering on the back. You DREW THEIR FACES. I don't think I've ever received any paper correspondence that made me this happy. Before I saw your card, I was feeling kind of dreary about school. Now I'm all :DDDDD smiley.

About school, since I haven't discussed my situation this term.

I dropped the grammar class. It will be replaced with exercise, study for my driver's permit, or complicated preparations for beautiful dinners. This leaves the other class, which is actually harder. It's a class in expository writing. We are being taught how to write academic essays about academic essays.

I got a check, as opposed to a check plus or minus, on my first assignment. This was sort of a swing and a miss for me. I did do it at the last minute, as usual, but I thought I did AMAZINGLY well. I was briefly under the impression that I was an angel descended upon my writing class to dazzle my peers with my mad skillz, and that the teacher was definitely playing to me. More likely, I have potential and a big vocabulary, but I don't take examples from the text enough. Also, I think teacher doesn't hate me, but so little is certain with those scheming, tricky people.

It's worth nothing that most of my peers are not my peers in that they are not apparently my equals. Take, for example, the calculating young woman who sat in my discussion group in the second class. We were asked to find examples of pathos in an essay. I had underlined half of a short phrase (two words, about 9 letters to underline in total---that's how fast) when suddenly this young lady suggested this exact same phrase to the rest of the group. I realized that my packet was in my lap, and it was pointing at her. It's a shame it would be so hard to prove. (School rules do really awful things to students who knowingly plagiarize.)

When she introduced herself, she also announced that she's kind of "spoiled" from growing up in a family of boys.

In my class this week, I had the pleasure of reading something she wrote.

She used the word "whilst," and it did not match the way she wrote, which means she just picked it because it sounded smart. She used 's to pluralize a word. She put hyphens in between the words in "half a dozen." It made me feel very superior.

Another member of my group was asked to summarize the essay in paragraph form, and instead wrote two pages of bullets with little facts after them. He's cute, but his interests are a little too fashionable. I could tell from the third sentence out of his mouth that he was a fucking moron. I get the impression that he smokes pot on the job. After being told that he would not be looking for grammatical errors or typoes, this joker went and found that and only that in my essay, having nothing else to contribute. (There was one. I used an extra "is.")

For those of us who are a little tired of college students who are complete idiots, there are detailed examples in that cut.

Tonight I will have a phone conference with my teacher, and we will discuss the general direction of my first essay for the class, thesis included. Thanks to a misunderstanding, I have to write about an essay that inspires in me nothing but annoyance for the author. :/ And as usual, I'm worried my teacher is out to get me.

P.S. I keep finding "evidence" in things my teacher says that indicate that she writes slash fanfic. That's okay, right? That would be so cool.

Wheee, I'm glad you like :) I wasn't sure if I was drawing them OK or not.

I hope you meet some people at school who aren't annoying, you could see if there are any interesting clubs or something?

Occasionally I can tell when reading a book that the author's a slash fan, but not in RL before. Maybe you could accidentally-on-purpose bring a related book and let it show XDDD

lul

At first I wondered if she read FWank, because she made fun of people who say they're friends with gay guys, but then she said something else I forget...it's pretty likely that I'm only deluding myself, but what a FUN delusion. Also I get the feeling she's way more into Western stuff vs. Japanese, so not much overlap with me. I still wonder if it would be acceptable to leave in plain sight a doujinshi with Roy and Ed looking close on the cover?

I'm not sure what there are for clubs because it's still adult education. It's assumed that none of us want to spend much time in school. I'll look into it.

I know this is not helping at all, but what I'm really most psyched about is the genuine goodness packed into this postcard. ^^;;; Could you accept some gratitude for that? I have noted, however, that Kuwan-dolly is scowling appropriately. (...in fact...his mouth makes him look a little like a Potter Puppet Pal D: What do you think? 花わずらいからくり劇場, 略して「花から劇」? THIS IS A GOOD IDEA.) The color of Shakuya's eyes is perfect, and I like the detail in them, too. Her shirt, too, is a wonderful color.

Well, it's always possible! You never know where a geek may be lurking.

Hmmm, if it's cont ed I dunno. Why don't you live here so I can socialize with you :(

Eheh. If you like it I'm really glad, because I sweated more than usual over this year's cards x_x and yours in particular just seemed awful GREEN. So ちょっぴりほっとした ♥ I had fun with the clothing textures, though.

「花から劇」: A+. With narration by Shakuya's maids, and then they have to stop in the middle because of baby tigers interrupting.

PS: I made a Yesasia order today! Yay manga and novels coming in the mail :O (Not Ryuu no hanawazurai though unfortunately ^^; but have you ever read Shinesman? I ordered the first bunko volume of that)

Shinesman. This name rings a bell. Explain? I will take suggestions, though I think another load of Japanese books is still far off for me.

BABY TIGERS MAKING TROUBLE A++++++++ EXCELLENT WORK YOU GET A SMILEY FACE :) So like Rushin sez LET'S GO BOTHER KUWAN and Kuwan uses Avada Kedavra mad sword skills on him, and then Shakuya's mother or father pops up and says, "It's nakey time!" Like that? Like that? :DDDDD

I've been known to like green, but it's a pretty green. I'm glad you had some fun with it.

It turned out that it was out-of-stock and Yesasia cancelled it on me :( Oh well, like this I get 6 books for $42, so that is not so bad. Like runan says below, it's a parody of sentai type shows.

...Ah, yes! Took me a while to remember what goes on in the Puppet Pals. If Shakuya's mom = Puppet!Dumbledore, and Kuwan = Snape, then yep. XD

From: [identity profile] moumusu.livejournal.com

Yes...I saw an excellent dubbed version of a Shinesman anime, and it was good stuff. And...I hear it's kinda gay? ^^; Is this incorrect? There's at least subtext...ugh, wait, maybe I have this mixed up with Deukarion? D:

I'm too sleepy to type right, let alone think up anything else to contribute to 花から劇 (tigers...)

Isn't Shinesman that sentai parody we watched dubbed a loooooong time ago? Where they all had funny colors except for the leader? I dunno.

Yes, there are definitely books out there that make me go "Haha, she writes slash fic in her spare time" but I don't think I've ever had a teacher like that. Pity.

Also, welcome to the world of the Average College Student. A prolific species, they can be observed in practically every classroom. They write like the English language is a strange and wonderful new form of communication for them, and they never tire of asking very stupid questions.

SALMON PINK!

They don't really get to ask stupid questions during class at this point. Instead of the teacher being subjected to their foolishness, I am when they "critique" my essay. As you can see above, they're not supposed to point out typos, but they do anyway. I wouldn't even trust them to proofread except THAT'S ALL THEY EVER CONTRIBUTE.

My teacher is increasingly trustworthy. The only graded paper I've gotten back was a check, which implies a steady predictable toughness (as opposed to capricious cruelty that thinks it's genius). It's comforting to think she may apply some smackdown in the form of crummy grades for crummy writing, especially by the end of the course.
