Sorry for the double entry day, I feel that I must make announcements about things that everybody else probably knew at least two weeks ago (´Д‘)

I picked up an issue of Ribon at the grocery store today and the ads all say that Arina will start a new series in the next issue. And since all the magazines at this store at a month late, the new series is out there somewhere. I know the title has "revolution" It's called Zettai Kakusei Tenshi Miss Fortune (haha, shut up, I can read) Zettai Kakusei Tenshi Mistress Fortune GOD I'M TOO EXCITED TO READ? and there might be princesses involved. Also, the main character has pink hair. Cool! The ads talk about Arina's popularity worldwide. They certainly were fast with localizing that Eve one-shot she drew. Maybe they're doing that with the new series, too?

Update: this series will have 3 chapters, and it'll have the fantasy/supernatural theme. The main character has crummypowers and she is partnered with a guy with superpowers to do tasks for the organization they work for. There are transformations! The guy transforms, too.

I'm kind of hoping that starting a new series will magically, instantly improve Arina's narrative, which even I will agree has deteriorated. She moves too fast, she says too much, all the goodness and feeling to the moral of the story is lost. I really have no problem with the fanservice, though, hur hur.

For me, probably the most important addition to the Vesperia site is the option to skip their stupid flash introduction, which I did have to sit through while on dialup in the countryside. Too little, too late.

There are new character profiles but I'm only going to do the characters I like because I don't feel like doing the rest.

Rita
Age: 15
Height: 150cm
Gender: Female
Voice actress: Morinaga Rika

A young genius always associated with Blastia reseach.

A user of magic spells, she cares only for her research, and she doesn't know how to soften or change herself to other people. She lacks tact and tends to say the most outrageous things.

She has a short temper, and she hates having her work interrupted more than anything in the world. She is an eccentric even among other scientists, who are fairly unusual themselves, and so she is mostly isolated. She doesn't have any proper friends, though she doesn't show any interest in having them, either.

Her demeanor is generally calm and detached, but she has an odd way of showing a great deal of excitement when discussing her work. She is for the most part unused to relationships with other people, and so there is a part of her that is confused and helpless in the face of invasions or interruptions from other people.

Raven
Age: 35
Height: 170cm
Gender: Male
Voice actor: [I can't read these names, leave me alone]

An older man, or maybe a walking heap of foolishness and ridiculousness. He shows up wherever Yuri and his friends go, and makes trouble for the whole party with his teasing.

He constantly complains about how hard everything is, changes what he says every time he says it, and shouts at people who ask questions he can't answer---basically, he's a pain in the butt.

He is, however, not truly bad, and nobody really hates his playfulness. Perhaps because of his age, he occasionally says things with peculiar implications that give him an aura of having had a difficult life, but nobody can be sure.

With both a bow and a short sword, he has a flowing, mutable fighting style that resembles his personality, and he is connected with a variety of sources of information. He is overall very tricky and impossible to judge.

Judith
Age: 19
Height: 175cm
Gender: Female
Voice actress: Hisakawa Aya (!!)

A beautiful spear fighter, and a member of the minority race Critea. She meets Yuri while wandering the world accompanied by only her friend.

She is sensitive to others' needs, and will go ahead and solve problems before anybody can even complain about them, but she tends not to explain herself very carefully when she does this, and so she gives the impression of being unpredictable. She looks calm and hard to provoke, but when given a goal, she will attack it without hesitation, and she can make very cutting remarks without any warning. People find it difficult to tell whether she likes them or not.

When fighting, she has a kind of passion and focus that is incongruous with the rest of her personality. Her looks only compound the fact that she is so unreadable, and so she comes off as mysterious and hard to pin down.

Yuri calls her Judy, because apparently he has trouble saying her name.

ETA:

Karol Capel
Age: 12
Height: 135cm
Gender: Male
Voice actress: Watanabe Kumiko

Bright, cheerful and energetic, this boy is always excited about something. He lives completely in the present, and he has a dizzying array of everchanging expressions and moods.

As a member of Demonhunter Blade, a guild that specializes in eliminating monsters, he puts big hopes and dreams into the big weapons he uses to fight monsters. He starts to follow Yuri's party around for some important reason.

He is well-informed and his subordinates are very skilled, so he is surprisingly capable. He constantly tries to show people how good he is, but he knows that for all the effort he puts into it, he seems to lack something that would really make him stand out, and it frustrates him.

Blah about Vesperia:

The advent of Vesperia's female physical fighter. Raven will be lacking in attack power, and Judith's attacks will be awkward or an acquired taste. MAYBE. JUST SPECULATING.

The advent of the older man (!), who also has a ponytail (!!) and hides his seriousness and/or sad past by acting like a moron (!!!). :DDDD Is it too late to hope for "dork," too? how about teh gay?

Judith has almost as much of a :3 face as Rita. Gee, do you think Fujishima has noticed the love for :3 faces?

Rita is like the Fujishima version of Harold, not that I mind something to possibly heal the scars a lesser game gave me. Harold was kind of...over the top.

I'm already entertaining fantasies of Raven and Judith interacting. Actually, I'm thinking about Judith totally pwning him. Is that so wrong?

Fears (IF I SAY IT NOW IT'LL MAKE IT BETTER):

Raven will totally pwn or shock Judith in some way and she'll fall into his arms, because she wanted his fancypants manspeech. Because all women secretly get wet for men who take control. Can't we have some quiet cameraderie?

Someone will hit Rita and inform her that real friendship is about punching people. (拳で語る熱いをとk(以下略) Because friendship is about beating your friends and everyone being an asshole. TOGETHER. Aww.

ETA: In the deeply, unspeakably unlikely event that someone wants to use these translations for something, could this hypothetical someone please tell me first? I don't have any legal control over them, but some warning would be The Nice Thing To Do.

Can not wait for Vesperia!

And I agree, Tanemura's later series haven't really impressed me; nothing she's done has really impressed me since FMwS and KKJ. Her earlier stories seemed a little rushed, but those two were perfect. And then came Gentleman Alliance, which just paled in comparison to those two stories, and yet was so much more popular. Woe.

I didn't get the impression that ShinCro was popular, just that Ribon was pushing it like CRAZY. If you feel like it, go to JP Amazon and read the reviews for volume 7 or 8? They are bad. They are really bad.

I feel like Gentleman Alliance had great potential, but it just moved too darn fast. It was Arina's first non-fantasy series in a long time. I wonder if she didn't know how to get the story moving? Or is she just tired?

I remember REALLY loving I-O-N, too. That was good stuff.
