I think they're trying to make her look like a traditional beautiful Japanese waif. I sort of bitterly accept the hair, but the skin looks bad to me. They've tried to make it looked shiny/youthful/detailed and they've lost a certain creamy gorgeousness I love to see in anime art.
When I thought about all the fighting over boys, I was actually thinking about Wedding Peach, which was not very feminist for a series by women for girls about girls. I distinctly remember one time when Momo thinks, it's our destiny as girls to change into bitches over boys. Yeah, sure, if you're in middle school.
I'm kind of pleased to hear that PS3 was good this way. It's high time I played that game, I've just hesitated because it's so long and it sounds like quite an undertaking. The girls in Tales of the Abyss also start out fighting with each other and end up being...casually cohesive. However, I think one of them at some point comments on how wonderful male friendship is because the boys solve problems by going out and beating each other up :/ Everything needs more friendships that benefit the girls, not the viewer.
