I never really know what game I'm going to want to play next. This week, it's Wild Arms 5. I think I've owned this game for at least a year and I haven't really done anything with it. Wow.

Every time I play a new Wild ARMS I'm in better emotional condition than I was when I played the last one. Also, I've never actually finished a Wild ARMS game, though I have gotten close to the end every time. What breaks me is the sacrifice of time and joy required for all the optional bosses/impossible sidequests/cameos. I start to think the final boss is so hard that I have to do all that stuff---I mean, do I? Wild Arms 5 is meant to be played a second/third/tenth time, right?

The effect of fans' expectations for female characters is practically visible from space. Virginia was the trendy new female!!! protagonist, and she got upstaged by everyone else anyway. Yulie was the dainty wilting semi-lolita in mary janes, and for me she got upstaged by Raquelle!!!! X3333 Now, in the age of moe harem anime, we have a moe harem party, consisting of Dean, a wise airhead in some clothes, and Mizuki Nana's tsundere in less clothes (and what looks like no bra). Nobody has upstaged them! Yet. Rebecca's frustration is compelling to me because I see so much of it and I think her character design is more engaging. (She reminds me of Yuna, complete with guns, gorgeous ass and tall boots.) Apparently Avril is more important? Well, gee, it's too bad, because about 1/3 of the way through my first playthrough she's still a big fat blank.

In terms of whole-game trends, this game is also particularly passionate about...everything. The dialogue's a little odd, especially Greg's...I guess I shouldn't even comment on the part where the party uses grenades to break their fall from a moving train, which I think I have seen before, HMMM! I think it's all supposed to show how outrageously infectious Dean's passion for Gundams is.

Re: Dean, I think he is the classic RPG hero made even more classic because he also acts like a sentai hero. I admit some (s)mothery girl-next-door RPG character feelings for him because he's going to grow up to be very very good-looking but I wish someone would clonk him over the head with that shovel and knock some sense in him. I get the feeling it would NO COUNT! on his thick thick skull.

I'd like to talk about Greg and Chuck one at a time, but I can't, I just can't. They're basically lumped in as "protagonist mens I want to marry" I love them both too much to separate them. Also, I haven't seen enough to say I like either better so as of now my only option is to pair them off with each other (/_\) ERR! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! Greg is certainly the one I like to look at, tight jeans A+++ WOULD OGLE AGAIN! But Chuck is, you know, silly...I like silly. I want to make lunches for Chuck and follow him everywhere.

I can keep what I say about Carol succinct. I think she looks like a mini Dana Scully, and I kind of can't have her in my party anymore because I read this comment on the Japanese wiki---someone said Carol's voice can be sexy depending on how you hear it? Something like that. ಠ_ಠ Uhh. I guess running headlong into pedophilia is always going to be a bit shocking.

I don't have anything else to say, so here's a video of Greg smiling.
