I'll confess that I haven't played Secret of Mana ever since I was twelve or thirteen, but recently I saw some bits of my gameplay on an ancient videotape and during those the dialogue and story just seemed rather bland in comparison to Terranigma. I remember I loved the game though, and I know I still could (because it has rabites!!), but on the other hand having to go through the entire Mana fortress at least five times before I was finally able to defeat the last boss has proven sufficient for my memory to collectively stigmatize all dungeons in the game as repetitive and frustrating. Besides that, I never really cared for the protagonists much, although with the rise of my adoration for shota maybe I could try and like the gnome boy on my next run? I'd desperately need to find something to keep me going other than chakrams and bright, pretty colors for the game to get finished in these busy times.
BUT YOU WANT TO PLAY TERRANIGMA :DDD That's even better. Do you have a way of playing an import version tho? I've tried playing it as a rom too because I was too lazy to dig up my ness, but it rendered the gameplay pretty rubbish. I also didn't like the temptation to cheat either because it's too POWERFUL, although I know the game has far more quality time to offer when for example Ark has to start all over from the save point in Litz when he dies in battle against Bloody Mary (regardless of how often that is likely to happen..!).
Oh, and in case you've only played Terranigma in Japanese, I'd give a shot at the English translation which is particularly lovable in all of it's almost literally translated glory (and it comes fully packed with errors and funny lines like this one. It also has a lot of cool one-liners by Ark where he uses the third person to indicate himself. Unlike Misamisa in certain offbeat English Death note scanlations he gets away with that (and instead it just makes him sound adorably macho..!!).
(Reposting this because I remembered I still had extremely relevant to add I didn't want to complexify the structure of this discussion by adding another seperate post..)
I'm also tired to death so that final sentence in the other post I hereby declare inreadable so at least I may seem a little less ignorant and stupid for writing it. Okay okay, SHUTTING UP AS WE SPEAK.
I mostly quit Secret of Mana because of the main way of leveling up magic...by running around the Wind Shrine area and casting everything endlessly. ._. I mean, really? Really really? Casting a spell 50 times for just 1 level in 1 element on one character? Really? Nuh-uh.
The first time I played Terranigma, it was the strangely translated English version! That was in like 1999, you see D: Nowadays the Japanese rom is easier to find. I actually had one maybe a year ago but I think I lost interest partway through because I didn't like having to grind for money...or something. There's this problem with Terranigma where the fetch quests where you deliver goodies from one town to another are way, way too fun...well, I thought they were. I can't stick with the game sometimes because I'd rather go around and get Ark drunk than do any dungeons required by the story =_= EVEN IF THEY DO HAVE HYSTERICAL DIALOGUE like with that wacky scientist...Ark, how did you wake him up? >_>

Mostly an indicator of another distinguishing feature of this game(♥)
