One of the reasons it's so great when an RPG is a bunch of teenagers rolling around and having antics together is that it's typical road trip behavior, as we know it. In Japan, when you go on a trip with your friends, you either go on a train, or you drive someplace. You don't drive someplace far away, and you certainly don't drive just for the hell of it. As a result, RPGs have come to occupy the niche of "meandering around in unknown territory with your friends and maybe an ultimate destination." At least, the fun ones do. This explains all the onsen scenes.

Of course, that means that road trips are easy to compare to RPGs. I WANT TO BE THE SUMMONER WITH A DIFFERENT GUY TO SUMMON FOR EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK MOOHAHAHAHA.
