Guess what I just killed downstairs? That's right, a "The Bug" (a house centipede). Another one of those big daddies. Right, so, I smished it with a box of those godawful wafer cookies that my parents like, and now I'm wondering. I know things can keep twitching after they die because of nerves and all, but what if the parts that are twitching aren't connected to the spinal cord (or whatever it is that sends out the instinctual TWITCH AHHH orders)? I mean, most of the bug stuck to the bottom of the box, but some of the legs stuck to the counter. And they kept moving. That's like cutting off someone's arm, and the arm just keeps flipping around. There are lizards that can do that with their tails, but this is a bug, man. What's going on? Is each little piece going to grow into a new centipede? Is there evil afoot? I'm inclined towards the latter, myself, because they're still so fucking nasty.

This is a real problem. I found a little teeny one in my room last night, and it got away from me. What if we have some kind of infestation? Also, I'm hoping nobody notices that there's dead bug splatter on the underside of that cookie box. (They might not. I'm safe for now.)

Well, they had a similar situation ages back in some cove town, where they kept catching starfish - their solution was to chop the starfish up really finely and chuck them back into the sea.

Thing is, each piece became a complete starfish...

It happens in nature, maybe the bugs have learned the trick :O

I did know the starfish thing, but I had no idea bugs, especially ugly ones, could do it, too. I'd rather they didn't. I've also kind of got a theory that there's three bugs---a big daddy, a medium one, and a little baby one---and every time we squish one and put it in the trash can, it just comes back to life and crawls out again. Look, they're evil, they can do anything.

No idea if it is true or not, but then there are also the spiders who carry a sac of eggs around inside them, which are released when they get squished - allowing lots and lots of little spiders to hatch...

Jesus. Is this another one of your scary Australia critters?

House centipedes do not regenerate from limbs. They're evil, but not THAT evil. I've been finding little teeny-tiny ones all over the house, though, and I fear we've got a whole brood of baby "The Bugs"...I attempted to smoosh the last one I saw in the bathroom with my trusty Scope bottle, but it was too fast. Curses.

Okay. ...then I'll go with the revival theory. >:D

They are fast. It's really scary.
