Nono, not like, "I'm sorry I bumped into you," I need "I'm so sorry your partner died." I mean, condolences = "I'm sorry," I know, but it's not an actual apology...

I mean, I understand there's no warning of the circumstances here, but that is what's going on.

It is so unforgivably weird for "I'm sorry" to be an apology and a condolence and an expression of empathy in our language.

I'm not saying they're unrelated, but geez. Clarity is only possible through the use of Big Words.
