Dear gamer news blogs, or whatever you call yourselves,
could you please stop knocking the naming conventions for Tales games? I understand dumbshit "reporters" need some lame joke to fill the space when they put up an announcement, but please find something that doesn't piss me off. Actually, you don't even have to go that far---just find something original. Part of my frustration is that like every site is totally baffled that Namco keeps naming the "Tales of" games "Tales of..." Yeah, I know, and we're so tired of Squeenix using the "Final Fantasy" name. Like, god, can't they find something else? That's like 15-20 games!
I do get information from English news sites sometimes, but I think I'm just going to cut that out altogether because I'm not into exposing myself to the whimsical utterances of US fanboys who think JRPGs are kind of gay. WHAT DO I READ JAPANESE FOR, ANYWAY?
Idolm@ster update: I finished my round of producing with Chihaya. Not long after my last entry, I gave her a few more lessons, went back up to "Idol God," and stayed there. For like 15 weeks, at least. No departing reporter not natural decline could change the fact that she was, as Adi says, Idol Goddess, Destroyer of Worlds. Holy crap. I feel as if she could shoot lasers from her eyes.
Being at level 16 and wrecking auditions with no memories was kind of fun---maybe I should play her again! 83
This has been a Namco-drenched entry, but maybe I should mention that lately that company makes me nervous. I can't play Vesperia to reassure myself that Tales games aren't getting too flimsy, idolm@ster has expensive DLC, the people who are supposed to make Summon Night basically got kicked to the curb, etc. Is it just the recession, or do I need to move on? =-=

Do you have a DS, by the way? Tales of Hearts looks pretty good. The main healer is the heroine's tsundere oniichan (yeah, the healer's a guy!!) :D Unfortunately it's like eighty bucks... Stupid Namco.. And I'm with you on wanting to play Vesperia! It looks like Abyss only not as sad XD;
What happened with Summon Night? I haven't bought any SN games since SN4 and I got that used... orz.

Sorry for deleting that comment btw, I got a message that it didn't go through and then reposted the comment only to find it was there twice... oops.

And the CG models they showed off before the game was released were very off-putting :/

I don't have a DS...I have a DS emulator that doesn't run Tales of Hearts very well I'M SORRY I'M SORRY T_T But the result is that I haven't bothered. I didn't know the main healer is a guy >8D that's excellent. When I get a DS sometime I'll go for it.
Bandai was originally the company that owned Summon Night, and they became part of Namco before SN4. After that there hasn't been an SN5, or a Summon Night game that resembles the first four from Bandai. Instead there's been Twin Age, the port of 1+2 to DS, and Summon Night X. The latter isn't even an SRPG, is it? And the developers are Synch and Feel? Meanwhile, Sacred Blaze just came out for the PS2, possibly on the same day as Summon Night X? ^^; It is totally by Flight Plan! It even has the same artist as the good old Summon Night games!
This whole thing has been sort of a shock for me, and so here we have my recent drop in affection points for Namco. :(

Ahahaha XD; I can't blame you, I downloaded it too (though I didn't play it - mostly I just watched a bunch of it on Niconico. Which is worse?) I was really turned off by the CG art (and the other 2 Tales of DS games didn't get such good reviews, Tempest even got wiped off the record..) so the quality of the game was a nice surprise. ^^
Really, SNX is not made by Flight-Plan?! Are you serious? That's so depressing... They've been published by Banpresto (who also make Super Robot Wars) for ages before Bandai Namco bought BP. Their latest string of original SRPGs didn't really push me to buy them at full price but now I feel bad. :( Maiki's really excited about Shining Force Feather though.

Like, I was just looking at an early ad for SNX, and it says that Flight Plan was involved, but on the box of information that names the developer they had the other people. I could be wrong, I haven't played the game, but it looks so much more like Twin Age or the GBA games than the main series. They could just say Flight Plan was involved because I guess SNX is in the same world or has the Summon Night name or something? ~_~
Er, I think I mixed up Banpresto and Bandai because they both start with a B OTL Who makes this latest string of SRPGs? Namco or Flight Plan? I'm kind of hoping you will say Flight Plan because I bought Sacred Blaze and though I have not played it, it looks awesome and I know I will need more :> I was interested in Dragon Shadowspell but the reviews say that the controls are just impossible in some parts and I'm scared T_T

Summon Night X is another recent SN game that isn't in Rinbaum (I think Twin age wasn't set there either.) So it probably has spells, character types and so on from SN but isn't directly related..
Unfortunately I don't really know any of the Flight-Plan staffers besides Miyakozuki Shuu (scriptwriter). You can see all the games they've made here: http://www.flight-plan.jp/~fp/game/text/worklist.html though who directed what I couldn't tell you. I know Sacred Blaze is a Flight-Plan project but the system seemed really weird so I din't pay much attention to it..

From here, the Sacred Blaze battle system looks like Summon Night 3 or 4 with extra goodies, such as: 3-D character sprites (don't know how I feel about this), the ability to break in at any time during battles and work miracles, super transformations for all characters, NO KARMA SYSTEM WHEE...
The premise of the game is that the player is god in the Sacred Blaze world. Your party works for you and helps people in your name, and in return you can help lead them to victory with miracles or by answering them when they pledge their faith to you. I think you might already know all this---I only bring it up because this it reminds me of Summon Night. Being god in a game world is so obvious, but this game takes that literally and it comes out original and refined. And it's a suggestion that our world is linked with the game world! I LOVE THAT IN A GAME. To me this is the strongest proof that this is Flight-Plan's work. < /frantic rant>

My main problem is that Flight-Plan's games lately sound so hard that I'm intimidated to try them! SN started out with such broken gameplay that I could cheat my way through, but SN3 had these hour-long fights and it's just BAH.
You seem really excited about Sacred Blaze :) You should play it!

Oh, god, don't get me started about SN4 =_= Why did they have to make the battles so agonizingly long?! I know it's more epic to have long battles but I want to PLAY, not SUFFER! T_T I'm hoping that Sacred Blaze, with the ability to interrupt battles to do stuff, and no karma points, will be less trouble. As in, if one unit dies in a fight I can just carry on instead of doing the same fight and the exact same moves over and over again for Brave Clears or karma blah...
I-I will play it, probably sooner than anybody might think? Lately I have this weird disease that makes me want to go back to Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Destiny...I don't really need the play them but I don't know how to fight it either T_T Maybe I should buy some guidebooks for inspiration.

Seriously! I want them to make their next game have easy mode! :O
Replaying old games is nice, though, not weird. It's a comforting feeling.
