I made omuraisu tonight and it came out really good! I made a pile of rice on each plate with a bowl, and I topped it with one big thin layer of fried egg, instead of the traditional way when you top it with a roll of egg and pick it open. I like this way better because the egg gets cooked more. Tomato sauce covered the ragged bits :3 I also topped it with mozzarella and black pepper!

I inhaled the evidence before I could take a picture. Ahem.

I tried to make custard rolls with store-bought refrigerated dough but the dough was too tough and the custard was too soft :( This time the evidence wasn't pretty enough. The dough wasn't really the right kind (strong salty flavor---more for dinner rolls). But the custard was fantastic. I made it from scratch from a recipe I modified slightly (≡ω≡) My mother basically destroyed 3/4 of a bowl---it was good. It tasted the way I always thought custard should taste!

Umm. So. This is my birthday present! Now I don't have to play an old fat one with fingerprints and cracks on one side of the screen! I have one of those Datel batteries but I'm afraid to use it. What if I bought the wrong thing? What if I brick my new baby? (Never mind that I could probably just fix it with the battery) What do I download for the memory stuck? An easy GUI?

I can never get my omelet rice to work out, since the egg always breaks when i'm trying to get it completely wrapped around the fried rice. I'm sure there's something I'm doing wrong somewhere...

You need to prepare the memory stick beforehand, and if you're comfortable with computers at all you should just use the Despertar del Cementario kits instead of a GUI (since you don't really know who makes those GUIs...) Follow the instructions in the readme and you'll be set.

I think making it look like this (http://www.tokyomango.com/tokyo_mango/images/2007/04/27/omurice.jpg) is either a myth or an unholy act best committed by a trained professional. (That's a mouse, right?) I thought Youtube might have something to help, so I went to look for my own edification :3 First (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OExw1yJLma8) we have one where the egg is wrapped around the rice in the frying pan. After this part the lady will just put it on a plate carefully with the open part down. I also must recommend this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-GFimGcYJw) surprisingly informative but artful bit from Tampopo. D:

Right. That's exactly why I was nervous about using a GUI. If I have instructions everything should be fine. Thanks!

Ooooh thanks! The last one seems great. I actually had one of those "empty at the bottom"-style omelet rice at a restaurant before and a friend was sniggering saying that's just "Fried Rice with Egg". I told him that's the best I can do too :(

The only issue you might run into is with those new MS Pro Duo sticks that are 8gb or 16gb, and which i hear can't be used for this. Anything less than that is fine ( I used a sandisk 4gb myself).

Wow, 16gb, huh? I haven't even heard of those ^^;;; I have a 1gb Datel memory stick I would like to use, but I think I read something about how you're not supposed to use that? So I'm using the 4gb Sony one.

Yeah, the last one proves that you can make it with the egg on top WITH STYLE. ...I tried that again a little while ago to the tune of abject phailure :( I really stink at the part where you tap the pan to flip the egg over baww.
